Loft Insulation

The current recommended loft insulation depth is 270mm - compared to an un-insulated loft, homeowners can achieve payback in only 1 year and save 800kgs of CO2 emissions per year. If you are topping up your loft, you will still save enough money in four years to pay for your initial investment.

Grants, provided by the Government through energy companies, are available to all homeowners. The insulation grants are part of the Government's Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT).

If your insulation is below your roof joists then you would be recommended to increase this to 270mm.

Inadequate Loft Insulation

You may also insulate in between the rafters but this is not as energy efficient as insulating the loft floor.
